Directions to the camp – for cyclists and drivers

A map showing the route from Shrewsbury to the camp in Berrington can be found here.

CYCLING TO THE CAMP FROM SHREWSBURY (5 miles)

On leaving Shrewsbury train station, turn left up the hill

and follow the one-way system left (onto St Mary’s St),

and then turn left down-hill at the next T-junction (onto Wyle Cop).

Go across the “English Bridge” over the River Severn, and under the railway bridge.

Keep going straight ahead, following the brown tourist signs for Attingham Park and The Abbey.

You’ll pass the abbey on your left and Shropshire Wildlife trust on your right.

Continue straight for ½ mile, to “Column Roundabout”- a roundabout with a great big column next to it.

Take the 3rd exit (the A458 towards Bridgnorth) and follow that out of suburbia into the countryside.

At the next roundabout, go straight on (2nd exit), and over the A5 dual carriageway.

Immediately after the bridge there’s a sliproad to your right onto the A5 (signed for North Wales)

DO NOT TURN HERE.

Less than 100 yards after this, there’s another right turn, signposted for Pithchford and Acton Burnell.

Turn right here (the A458 is often busy at this point – dismount and walk across if you’re not confident).

Follow this road for about two miles until you see a left fork signed for Berrington and Cross Houses.

Take this road (steep uphill initially) and then go straight on at the little crossroads you come to.

The camp is at the third gate on your left, almost ½ mile after the crossroads.

(The 2nd gateway is signed ‘Gardeners Cottage’ – that’s not us, but you only have 200 yards to go!)

BY CAR:

Come off the A5 (whichever direction) when you see signs for A458 Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock, Cross Houses.

This is the first roundabout that you get to after the A49 / A5 roundabout coming from the East / M54.

Follow the A458 for about 4 miles to the first little crossroads and take a right turn signposted “Condover”.

At the first crossroads, take a left signposted “Berrington”. We are the second driveway on your left after approx ½ mile.

There’s a small sign saying ‘Berrington Hall’.

(The first driveway is our neighbours – ‘Gardeners Cottage’, which is a bit smarter and they have a gate).

If you are coming towards Shrewsbury on the A458 (from the south), take the first left after the petrol station in Cross Houses signposted “Berrington”.

After about ½ mile the road forks at the edge of the village; take the right turn signposted “Betton Abbots” and we’re about ¼ mile up the road on the right.
